Mull of Kintyre
Mull of Kintyre
People have lived in this wonderful region for thousand of years. Historic places introduce to Neo-lithic times, Iron Age, early Christianity, the Kingdom of Dalriata, the Norse settlements, the Lord of the Isles and the covenanters of the 17th century. Kintyre is full of beautiful landscapes including the famous Mull of Kintyre and covers a coastline with its sandy beaches, the duns, castles and abbeys.
Deer and feral goats, birds and cattle, sheep and horses make nature and wildlife more than interesting.
In 1977 Paul McCartney‘s Song Mull of Kintyre was no. one and made the Mull of Kintyre world famous. He was then a resident of Kintyre and owned a cottage there.
„Mull of Kintyre
Oh mist rolling in from the sea,
My desire
Is always to be here
Oh Mull of Kintyre...“
„I (Paul) certainly loved Scotland enough, so I came up with a song about where we were living; an area called Mull of Kintyre. It was a love song really, about how I enjoyed being there and imagining I was travelling away and wanting to get back there.“ Wingspan, p. 129.
