Rugen Distillery

Owner: Rugenbräu AG

The Rugen Distillerie is situated in Matten near Interlaken in Switzerland. In 1999 the brewery presented the first Swiss beer distillate. The distillery was built in 2010. There are two copper pot stills from Christian Carl Ing., Göppingen in Germany. Their capacity is 1.000 litres. Their is another smaller distillation set with a capacity of 500 litres each. The spirit is distilled twice like in Scotland.

Some of the whisky - about ten casks - matures in the Alpine mountains of the Jungfrauenjoch in a natural grotto of  glacier ice. Most of the whisky matures in Oloroso Sherry butts made of American oak and other oak casks in traditional brewery cellars on site.
