Tullibardine  the hill of warning

The Perthshire distillery was built on the site of a brewery which supplied the beer to James IV coronation at the Scottish crowning place of Scone Palace in 1488. You may also get this special Tullibardine whisky ale, „A Coronation Beer“, at the visitor centre (2009). The distillery was built by the famous Welsh distillery engineer William Delmé Evans in 1947.

He „...was in the forefront of Scotland’s whisky revival and his concern for energy efficiency and conservation was many years ahead of his colleagues. He undoubtedly helped to improve the quality and profitability of the entire industry by designing three of the most successful distilleries in the country.

(Scotsman, August 22, 2003).

It was mothballed in 1995 and reopened in 2003 when it was bought by a „group of four individuals“. About 2.700.000 litres of spirit were produced in 2008 and 2.200.000 litres in 2009, 2010 aprox. 1.500.000 litres. Tullibardine also bottled a new make The Pure Pot Still at the strength of 69% A.B.V.  in 2009. There is one racking and one dunnage warehouse on site which is situated next to a modern shopping centre.

In November 2011 the distillery was sold to the Picard Family from Château de Chassagne-Montrachet, Burgundy, France. They also purchased the brand of Highland Queen from the Glenmorangie in 2009.

News in October 2012: „Distillery managing director Douglas Ross currently spends 250,000 pounds a year to dispose of these by products spreading them on fields or making them into animal feed, so for him it replaces a cost with environmental and commercial benefit...produce biobutanol, and a spin-out company from the university, Celtic Renewables, is looking at two sites to build a processing plant in central Scotland. The distillery is supplying by-products to a plant at Redcar in northeast England to refine the process, which could help met the Scottish government's targets on carbon emissions and the European Union's on the use of biofuels.“ (press release)

The distillery is now owned by PICARD VINS ET SPIRITUEUX, Chagny in Burgundy, France.

Distillery Manager and Master Distiller: John John Black (2012, died in 2013); Douglas Ross (2012); John Torrance (December 2013)
