Ardmore the big Height
Ardmore the big Height
This distillery in the Huntly area is the largest in the eastern Highlands and is located directly near the Aberdeen-Inverness-Highland railway line. The annual production is around 5.500.000 litres. Its single malt contributes largely to the blend Teacher‘s Highland Cream.
In 2014 the family owned drinks firm Suntory Holdings K.K. bought Beam Inc for $16bn (£9.7bn) in all, Suntory paid $13.6bn in cash and took on Beam's debt.
Original distillery bottlings came back on the market in 2007. They were much acclaimed. The stills are no longer coal fired. In the traditional dunnage warehouses there are still casks stored. Ardmore Single Malt is generally peated, around 12 ppm to 16 ppm. The line-up of the onion-shaped stills in the still house is the most beautiful in the industry.
Ardlair is the other name for the unpeated version of Ardmore Distillery to be used in blending by the whisky industry. About 30 % of its annual production in 2010 was Ardlair. The annual production is about 5,3 million litres.
