Auchinblae or Auchenblae
Auchinblae or Auchenblae
The village of Auchenblae (gael. Achadh nam Blàthin) in Aberdeenshire is believed to be the resting place of Saint Palladius who had been the first missionary bishop in Ireland before Saint Patrick arrived.
The Auchinblae Distillery Company Ltd. was founded by 205 local people in 1895 and was converted from a flax-spinning mill which had been built in 1795. The architect was Charles C. Doig from Elgin who designed 56 Scottish distilleries. Operation started in 1896 and ended in July 1929. The distillery was finally closed in 1929 and bought by John Thomson who converted it into a garage.
Most parts of the distillery are now demolished.
