Fettercairn the foot of the stony monument
Fettercairn Distillery was one of the first distilleries to be legalized according the 1823 Regulations Act. It was the second licensed distillery in Scotland in 1824. The water supply is from springs in the eastern Grampians mountains or Binchinnin hills.
The Fettercairn spirit still production proccess is very special and absolutely unique in the industry. A circular water pipe at the top spreads or trickles cold water down along the spirit pot still‘s neck like a waterfall and is collected again. This „water-cooled jacket“ makes for more reflux. The alcohol vapours drop back into the pot with the result that the resulting spirit is lighter. The annual production is more than 1.500.000 litres of spirit. In 2014 the production will mount to 2,2 million litres of new make spririt. Most of the Fettercairn Malt goes into the Blends of Whyte & Mackay. Other names are Old Fettercairn.
