Glen esk       valley of the river esk

 
 

The distillery was founded in 1897 under the name Highland Esk. Other names were North Esk, Montrose and Hillside. The distiillery was closed in 1985 and dismanted in 1996. Only the warehouses remain.  On site there is Glenesk Maltings formerly owned by Greencore Malt and today owned by Boortmalt (2010, see http://www.boortmalt.com.) The maltings produce 48.000 tonnes of malt per year. In 2010 there was a fire when barley ignited.
