Knockdhu  anCnoc       Black hill

John Morrison bought the Duke of Fife‘s estate in 1892. Knock became a distillery as the new owner discovered springs of excellent pure water in the slopes of Knock Hill. The Distillers Company Ltd. based in Edinburgh built the new distillery.

Knockdhu Distillery began its production in October 1894 with two stills, which still remain in size and shape. The motive energy was supplied by a steam engine and some cottages were built for the workforce.  It was an ideal situation for a distillery as the Great North Railway line ran nearby, the area was full of peat and barley. The production „methods have hardly changed in over 100 years.“

Knockdhu, which is also called anCnoc, is famous for its special and complex flavour. „anCnoc is a rather curious whisky.“

The distillery can be visited by appointment only.
