Old Bushmills Distillery in Co. Antrim, Northern Ireland which is part of the United Kingdom, is not the oldest distillery in the world.

The present distillery was not established in 1608, only a distilling licence was given Sir Thomas Phillipps by the Deputy of the Crown in April, 1608: „...for the next seaven yeres, within the countie of Colerane...distill such and soe great quantities of aquavte, usquabagh and aqua composita...“

The present distillery was licenced 1784 by Hugh Anderson and was destroyed by fire in 1885.
It must be doubted that the Old Bushmills is the oldest licenced whisky distillery in the world. It seems as if Kilbeggan in Co. Westmeath is the oldest whisky distillery in the world (see Kilbeggan Distillery).

The Gateway to Distilleries was not allowed to take pictures as usual at the distillery site and apologizes for the lack of professional information.

There is a visitor centre with a large shopping area of Bushmills merchandise and a restaurant.

The „Famous Bushmills Stew“ was by no means a culinary delight, as it was composed mostly of potatoes, two slices of carrot and two tiny ,sticks‘ of lamb. However, the Brown Bread with the leek soup was very delicious. Very kind and helpful service.

In November 2014 Bushmills Distillery and its brands were swapped for the Mexican tequila brand Don Julio by its owner Diageo. The previous owners of the Don Julio brand, the Mexican Beckmann Family payed Diageo $ 408 million to balance the transaction.

The new owners will spend £3m of capital expenditure every year for the next 10 -15 years plans revealed in December 2015.
