Glenkinchie
Glenkinchie
This distillery has represented in the Classic Malts the Lowland type of malt since 1987. It is the only Scottish distillery with a bowling green. The farmland once owned by the family deQuinceys gave the distillery its name and is reputed for the growing quality of barley. Only 60 miles from Edinburgh away situated near Pencaitland the distillery produces The Edinburgh Malt.
Established in 1825 it began, however, to produce malt continuously from 1914 onwards. The steam heated wash still with a capacity of 30.963 litres is one of the largest in the industry. Only 8% of its annual 2.35 million litres production goes into malt bottling. Former names were Kinchie, Milton, Millton, The Glen Kinchie or Kinchie Burn.
The visitor centre is absolutely wonderful for the whisky enthusiast to study the history of Scottish whisky. The state of the art exhibition is unique and highly commended. Excellent tours by highly motivated guides. Save some time for the display.
