Longship Distillery Ltd. is a Scottish subsidiary of the Swedish mother company Grythyttan Whisky AB (publ), a PLC with more than 1 600 whisky loving shareholders.

„Grythyttan will move its excisting distillery plant to Orkney, Scotland, and continue distilling Single Malt Whisky, but this time it will be Scotch. The Swedish whisky will stay in our bonded ware houses in Sweden. It is only the plant that is moved.

We are currently negotiating the location, and will disclose it once the contract is final (december).

The distillery can produce 27 000 litres of New Make/year (46 weeks, 1 shift).

The stills are sourced from Forsyths, Rothes. The Wash Still is 900 litres, and the Spirit Still is 600 litres.“ ( Grythyttan Distillery in December 2013)

Production details:

Mill: Buhler, 4 roll mill, capable of milling 500 kg/h.

Mash Mixer: Steels.

Mash Tun: traditional with false bottom, underback, wort filter.

Wash Backs: made from Oregon Pine, sourced from J Brown Vats, Duffton, Scotland.

Spirit Safe: From Forsyths, Rothes.

The equipment will be shipped in one of their Longships in January 2014, and then reassambled.

However, Longship Distillery Ltd. is still seeking investors with about £1 million to build their distillery on Orkney.

Mr Jim Robertson of Orkney, Scotland, has been appointed Senior Advisor for Longship Distillery Ltd, Orkney. Jim’s long and fruitful experiences in combination with his excellent contacts in the whisky business will be of great value for the shareholders of Longship. 

Jim is best known and appreciated for his long time as Distillery Manager at Highland Park, Orkney. 

His working experience include 13 years at William Grant & Sons Ltd (Girvan, Balvenie, Glenfiddich). 10 years at Highland Park, Highland Distillers, Keeper of the Quaich in 1999, Chairman of Orkney Chamber of Commerce, Vice Chairman of the Orkney Enterprise Company and the Health Board.
