Dalmunach
Chivas Brothers of Pernod Ricard built a new distillery on the site of the former Imperial Distillery in 2014. The state of the art distillery‘s architecture is very impressive. The new distillery situtated in Carron, Moray, on the banks of the River Spey. It is a perfect example of modern distilling technology.
The place name is derrived from the area which is called Dalmunach by Carron. There is also a farmstead with which is called Dalmunach. Its origin comes from the traditional name of a pool in the River Spey near the distillery site. Dalmunach is a registered Trademark owned by Chivas Holdings (IP) Ltd.
There are eight pot stills, the wash stills have got a tulip shape whereas the spirit stills have got an onion shape. They are replicas of the former Imperial distillery which was operating on the same site until 1998. It was demolished in 2012-13.
The annual production capacity will be 10 million litres of spirits a year. The first mashing started on September 30th, 2014. Distilling took place in the second week of October 2014.
There is no visitor cenrtre and strictly no admittance. It will not be open to the public. The distillery can be seen by hikers from the Speyside Way which runs nearby.
