Glen Elgin   Glen of little ireland

Glen Elgin Distillery joined the Classic Malts in 2006. The Classic Malt Selection was born. Established in 1898 during the Scottish distillery boom by Architect Charles Chree Doig. The floor maltings were used until 1964. Tradition counts with the worm tubs which were renewed in 2009.

Glen Elgin Distillery processes a destilate in a balanced distillation process which is very unique in the industry. One washback supplies three pairs wash stills whose low wines go into three spirit stills. There is a modern 8.2 tonnes stainless steel full lauter mash tun from the German manufacturer Steinecker which is also to be found at Aultmore Distillery or Craigellachie Distillery(see www.krones.com). The annual production is about 2.7 million litres.

Character: some maltiness, floral and very fruity, very closed, needs time to develop its taste.
