Glendullan
Glendullan
One of the seven stills of Dufftown. Established in 1897 the seventh and last Dufftown distillery started production in 1898. Glendullan Distillery was extensively refurbished in 1972 when three pairs of stills were installed in a new premise. The old distillery operated parallel until 1985 when it was shut down. It is reported that the old original stills produced about 1 million litres of alcohol per year.
The Glendullan single malt contributes to Johnnie Walker, Old Parr and Black & White. Glendullan is a relatively unknown single malt although it produces more than 5.000.000 litres of spirit every year.
Glendullan Malt is bottled in the Flora and Fauna Series. The Singleton of Glendullan, which has been matured in Sherry butts and Bourbon barrels for 12 years, was launched exclusively for the American market in 2007-8. A cask strength bottling was released in 2010 within the Manager‘s Choice line.
Character: some maltiness, floral, citrussy, dried fruit, some sweetness and dry, well balanced.
Diageo announced plans in April 2013 to invest in „...the construction of a new plant at Glendullan to process co-products in an anaerobic digestion process, producing bio-gas which will be used to power the Glendullan distillery. This new plant is an important element of future distillery expansion plans on Speyside as it creates the capacity to process the extra co-products which will result from increased Scotch whisky production.“
