miltonduff black Mill

Miltonduff Distillery was built on the site of Pluscarden Abbey in 1824 near Elgin. The nearby monastery -founded by King Alexander II - is the only medieval abbey in Scotland still inhabited by monks. There is also a dark grains plant on the distillery site. In the sixties a pair of Lomond stills were installed producing a malt called Mostowie. They were dismantled in 1981 due to dissatisfaction.

The production volume per year is probably around 5.800.000 litres of spirit.

The Malt of Miltonduff is one of the most important whiskies in the blends of Ballantine‘s. The distillery is one of the bigger ones in Scotland.
