Kasauli Brewery and Distillery

 
 

Founded in 1855 by Edward Dyer Kasauli distillery is one of the oldest distillery in Asia. It is the world‘s highest distillery (2000 metres) situated in Himachal Pradesch, south of Jammu and Kashmir. Dyer bought the distillation equipment from England and Scotland. He had it shipped and transported to the Himalayas through Shimla. Edward Dyer first brewed Pale Ale from the late 1820‘s. When the brewery moved to Solan he converted the brewery into a distillery and distilled a malt whisky which was sold on the market. His brewery was also the first in India.


The whisky brand is known as Solan No. 1. and was once India‘s best selling malt whisky. It is a vatted malt. The famous liquor brand of Mohan Meakin firm is Old Monk Rum. It is the third largest selling rum in the world. Other products are Colonel's Special, Diplomat Deluxe, Golden Eagle, King‘s Castle, Top Brass, Summer Hall and Black Knight. Lion Beer and Golden Eagle Beer are the brands of Mohan Meakin.
